POSHAN Abhiyaan is India’s flagship program to improve nutritional status of children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers. It aims to create synergy between different nutrition schemes across ministries in achieving the common goal through implementation of a systematic convergent mechanism of service delivery, environment building, technology empowerment, programme strengthening and monitoring.
The recently launched National Nutrition Mission (NNM) by the Government of India further strengthens a favorable policy environment in the country and gives impetus to relevant actions for achieving the nutrition goals under the SDGs. Creating a Jan Andolan to improve the awareness on the importance of nutrition will contribute to achieving its targets. In order to address this mammoth gap and reduce malnutrition, it is imperative for all key stakeholders which includes various government ministries and departments, civil society organizations, development partners and private sector to work collectively and in sync with the government efforts.
IMPAct4Nutrition has been created to engage private sector in supporting the multisectoral approach of the mission’s strategy, which is key to the progress of POSHAN Abhiyaan’s Jan Adolan (mass mobilization engaging all population groups) environment building. It is an opportunity for the private sector to be part of a large social movement that will positively impact the nutritional and health status of India. This is a platform for the private sector to actively engage and build a social movement with their employees, customers and employees’ families who form a part of their business ecosystem, and support the POSHAN Abhiyaan.
